Mini pictorial

How I do it - screen shots:

Open Microsoft Picture It, choose Blank Projects,
then Standard Paper

Then, choose to add a circle shape to workspace

or from the add something option along left hand side of workspace

Sizing your image:

size the circle, using the rulers on top and side of workspace
7inches by 7 inches, seems to fit the jiffys well. Be sure to
print out, as full size. You may need to play with adustments
and your own printer settings.

Choosing an edge or framing for your circle:

If you would like a border made with a PictureIt function
choose Photo Stroke edges

For this example, I am choosing Christmas Lites

At this point you have a circle

with a border and you can save it and use for making jiffy covers
and adding your own graphics and words to it.
I save the circle to a folder in my Hugware deluxe browser that I created
following the path
C:/PC Hugware/Collections/Images/Painted/4mycreations
(*see other mini-pictorials I have created )

*I do this so that I can take advantage of the drag and drop feature
in the Deluxe browser that takes the white out - it will make my circle transparent
in the middle and around it.

Now you can use this circle to make a Jiffy cover graphic
First - Open Picture It, to Blank Project and have a blank workspace open

To use this circle -(if it was saved to the deluxe browser),
Open Deluxe Browser
[**the Hug Bug Browser Deluxe must be purchased -
the Free Lite version of the browser does not support
the drop and drag feature of "getting the white out",
when you hold down the shift key],
Locate your image, be sure it shows in the lower frame of browser:
place your mouse over image, left click and hold down mouse key
and the "Shift Key" at the same time and drag the circle
into the film tray of Picture It. Note: the image may appear in
the main work space, click on the "blank project" page that  is now located
in the tray.
Always be sure to reclick on  the blank image
after you bring a new image to tray.
You must hold down the "shift key" as you drag to tray
Your images may appear to still have white around them,
but as you drag to workspace they will be transparent.

See below in film tray that I have put several images in tray,
I choose images from various Creatables Collections
or from other graphic collections I have saved to folders*
I have made in the Deluxe Browser,
(*for a "how I do this" see my other mini-tutorials)
that I might want to use in any particular project.

Here I first dragged the circle frame to work space then
dragged images from tray and resized within circle.

You can save the image as is, or print it.

If you want to create another image - click on new project icon button,
choose blank project again, and your workspace will open again
and the images you had in tray will still be there.

To add text - click on the "Add something" button, and then text, and/or shaped text

Other options for your Circles:

If you would like a circle with a background filled in
open a blank project, choose add circle shape and size it, and this time
choose from Photo Effects, then "Color or texture", and then
You can choose to "fill with a color or texture",

then you will be able to choose if you want to use "color" or an Image.
You can use graphics, photos, etc. the image and/or color will automatically
fill the circle.
If you choose color or gradient, you can apply special effects to the
choices - the software will show you each effect and you can decide
on whatever looks best to you.

I chose an image from the tray for this circle.

For this circle I chose a color gradient fill

Each time I finished a circle image, I saved it to use or print at a later time.
You can create a separate folder on your computer with just jiffy covers images.
I have a folder on my computer C:/4craftprojects/4jiffys - where I store them.

Here are more examples of jiffy covers I made and saved to this craft project folder and the 4mycreations folder in the deluxe browser  on my own computer.

  • Microsoft PictureIt

*note: here are some links to obtaining older versions of Microsoft Picture It
costs much less than newer versions and may be all you need to create wonderful graphics

Currently as of October 2005  Microsoft's latest version of Digital Imaging Software is Digital Image Suite 2006
    http://www.microsoft.com/products/imaging/default.mspx

I have been using Digital Image Pro version 10 since March 2005, and I really like it over Picture It. It has a Magic Wand feature that makes filling templates, etc. so much easier. I also can remove the white surrounding jpg graphics quickly, by
selecting areas of white with magic wand and then press my keyboard Delete Key.  See how I do it..at http://www.teas2dine4.com/whiteouts.html

Picture It's title changed to Picture It! Digital Image Pro with version 7, then Microsoft skipped a number and dropped Picture It! from the title when they released Digital Image Pro 9 and Digital Image Suite 9 in 2003. The main difference in Digital Image Suite is the addition of the Image Library for photo organization.
